Our Scientific and Lay Advisors

In order to ensure that we fund only the highest quality research, we have formed Scientific Advisory Boards (SABs) which are made up of internationally renowned scientific and medical experts that work in different areas of cancer research and social science.

The lay members of our SABs represent people personally affected by a brain tumour, ensuring that our community’s interests remain at the forefront of our grant award process.

The boards are responsible for the assessment and rating of applications for research funding and making recommendations to our Board of Trustees. Find out a little about them below.

Biomedical Scientific Advisory Board

The Biomedical SAB assesses applications from our grant rounds which show promise in new areas of research and treatments. Their diverse set of expertise aids us in funding innovative research ventures.

Lay Advisory Board

The Lay Advisory Board was formed with the purpose of allowing direct input and feedback from the community regarding applications. They provide their lived experience perspective in all of our awards.

Translational Advisory Board

Our newest advisory board for the Translational Award, These advisors have been chosen for their scientific and industrial expertise to assess our applications to help bring novel treatments to the clinic

Quality of Life Advisory Board

The QoL Advisory Board will help us assess new ideas that from our Sandpit Event geared at bringing together multidisciplinary and collaborative projects. Our shared aim is to improve quality of life from those suffering from a brain tumour or the after-effects of treatment.

Clinical Trial Advisory Board

These advisors have been chosen for their expertise in clinical trials and relevant disciplines. They are helping us make sure we fund clinical trials urgently needed by the community.

Low Grade Centre Advisory Board

The Low Grade Centre SAB principally advises our Paediatric Low Grade Brain Tumour Research Centre and ensures our work into low grade tumours is progressing favourably.

Biomedical Scientific Advisory Board (Biomed SAB)

The Biomedical SAB assess applications from grant rounds that focus on scientific, clinical or translational research. The funding applications they assess primarily work towards achieving our goal of improving survival for those affected by brain tumours.

Lay Advisory Board Members (LAB)

Our commitment to our beneficiaries is crucial to us and as such, we feel that it is important to allow our community the opportunity to use their personal experience of the disease to contribute to the research grant awarding process. Hence, we have form the lay advisory board consisting of 10 individuals. They provide their expert-by-experience perspective on whether the applications that we receive for funding are important and/or feasible for patients. Find out a little more about them below.

Translational Advisory Board (TAB)
