Wickes

Wickes’ Charity of the Year corporate partnership with The Brain Tumour Charity has literally transformed both organisations.

Our Charity of the Year work started in 2023 with plans to raise an ambitious £2 million over 2 years. By collaborating on a programme of engagement, fundraising and awareness across its 230 stores, digital channels and by involving suppliers, customers, business connections, family and friends, Wickes is on target to achieve its £2 million target. By the end of the first year, we have already raised a whopping £1 million to help us defeat brain tumours.

From ultra-marathons and mountain hikes to bake sales, in-store promotions, a series of ‘50p asks’ across the stores and individual challenges; the Wickes team proved themselves to be an absolute power-house of fundraising.

Knowing that research into brain tumours represents just 3% of national spend on cancer, with 34 people being told every day they have a brain tumour, has been the motivation for all stores to truly help the charity both with fundraising and by helping educate and engage our colleagues, customers, friends and family.

I’ve spoken to many colleagues throughout my role as Wickes Regional Charity Champion and the engagement is second to none. It is truly inspiring seeing what our full Wickes team achieves and the buzz around key event dates is mind-blowing!

The Majestic Foundation

We are often told that it’s our passion and energy for the cause that gets embedded into the organisation to create a partnership with real meaning and tangible impact.

Majestic Wine and now The Majestic Foundation are one such example and we have been their Charity of the Year charity partner since 2021

Brain tumour treatment, cures and support for those affected is incredibly close to the hearts of a number of the company’s colleagues, many of whom have had personal experience of living with brain tumours themselves, or having friends, families and loved ones affected.

We are delighted that The Majestic Foundation has once again chosen The Brain Tumour Charity to be its Charity of the Year 2024-2025 and we’re looking forward to planning a fun and engagement diary of activities over the coming year and beyond.

Our engagement plan is varied, interesting and inclusive. From Comedy nights to iconic London building stair-climbs, there’s something for every employee to get involved in.

Employee health and wellbeing is paramount to the leadership team at Winckworth Sherwood and raising awareness of signs and symptoms to promote early diagnosis and encourage peer-support is integral to this partnership.

To launch the partnership and in addition to a lunch-and-learn session, this incredibly dedicated and energetic team of lawyers based in London, Oxford and Manchester literally hit-the-ground running by planning an incredible SAS selection event in Wales. The Fan Dance is an ultimate test of endurance; this 24 km traverse at altitude with load-bearing kit is a total mind-body challenge. Just one example of how Charity of the Year Partnerships help to build cross-functional teams.
