South Downs at Night 2024
Push yourself to the limit and take strides towards a cure for all those affected by a brain tumour.
Take part in this unique night time trek through the South Downs National Park. You’ll walk 42km along the South Downs Way battling tired legs and the demanding terrain of one of southern England’s newest national parks before reaching Beachy Head and Eastbourne as the sun begins to rise.
Your itinerary
Day 1: Evening: arrival and begin your challenge!
The adventure begins this evening at approximately 7:30pm near Brighton where you will meet your challenge leaders and crew for registration and a pre-trek safety briefing.
Day 2: Through the night
As darkness falls, you set off towards the village of Alfriston across the ancient Long Burgh. Easing in with a long downhill section, the route is lit by torchlight and stars. The terrain becomes more challenge and you’ll start to feel tired as you follow the course of hte Cuckmere River towards the coast.
Crossing the rolling chalk hills of the Seven Sisters you then enter the most spectacular and challenging part of the walk, past the Belle Tout Lighthouse and on to the journey’s end at the top of Beachy Head.
A new day dawns on the spectacular chalky white hills and sea views. All being well, you will arrive at the finishing line for sunrise and a well-earned breakfast!

Remaining cost of trip: £169 paid approximately 5 weeks before your challenge to the event organisers Charity Challenge.
