James had the biggest personality, and the world now has a gap that can never be filled. It is now my mission to raise awareness and fundraise for research into this terrible disease that took him away from us.

Remembering James

My son James was 29—fit and healthy, married to Dawn, and a devoted father to twin boys, then aged three.
He was my rainbow baby after losing his brother Craig at 14 months to a genetic condition. James was my reason for living, and he was adored.
A Life Filled with Passion
James loved island life in Guernsey. He enjoyed spending time on his fishing boat and rebuilding the family home. As a skilled carpenter, he had a wide circle of friends who admired his talent and dedication.

The First Signs of Illness
James started feeling ‘strange,’ and despite numerous visits to the GP, it wasn’t until he collapsed at work from a massive seizure that we discovered he had a brain tumour. This marked the beginning of a four-year battle, made even harder by the challenges of Covid and the necessity of traveling to Southampton for treatment.
A Rollercoaster of Hope and Heartbreak
James underwent his first operation, and the tumour was almost completely removed. He enjoyed a year of good health, even regaining his driving licence. We all felt hopeful. But in February 2023, after another seizure at work, our worst fears were confirmed. The tumour had returned—this time as a Glioblastoma Grade 4.
“I feel sick and tired sitting on the sofa, so I may as well work and feel sick and tired.”

Fighting with Determination
Despite the grim diagnosis, James never gave up hope. He endured another operation, a year of chemotherapy, and six weeks of radiotherapy. Through it all, he worked full-time and even built a four-bedroom extension on his house. He refused to let the illness define him, saying, “I feel sick and tired sitting on the sofa, so I may as well work and feel sick and tired.”
He had so many plans and was never negative. Even as he started another project—a sun lounge extension—his spirit remained unbroken. Sadly, he never got to finish it.
The Final Months
As time passed, James’ symptoms worsened. He lost the use of his left leg and arm. In June 2024, an MRI confirmed what we feared: he had only weeks to live. How does a young man cope with that? He had twin boys he desperately wanted to watch grow up. He worried more for his family than for himself—he didn’t want to leave Dawn and the boys. He was devastated for us, his parents, knowing we would have to endure the loss of another child. He wanted to stay for his brother Luke and his niece Scarlett, whom he adored.
Saying Goodbye
James spent his final weeks in a hospice. We watched our strong, vibrant son deteriorate—losing his sight, his voice, and eventually, his awareness. At 2:53 pm on Sunday, 25th August 2024, James took his final breath.
A Lasting Legacy
Our hearts are shattered. James had the biggest personality, and the world now has a gap that can never be filled. It is now my mission to raise awareness and fundraise for research into this terrible disease that took him away from us.
