John’s Story
John was my dearly loved husband who was taken to early and largely due to lack of research in order to treat his tumour. Less than 2% of all cancer funds are used for brain tumour research and yet around 8.5 thousand people a year are diagnosed and over half will die.
John started to experience issues with his vision in September 2014, the opticians sent him for a scan which revealed an abnormal growth. It took until 30th October for a biopsy to be done which resulted in an internal bleed and multiple seizures within hours. Days after, John began to loose his speech and his balance. We had little support and there was little research to be found on the net either.
12th November we were called in to gain John’s biopsy results, by this time, he was already wheelchair bound. We were advised that the results had shown a Grade 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme, a very aggressive brain cancer with a prognosis of 3 – 12 months.
“I lost my husband, soul mate, hero and part of myself on the 9th December this year. With more research and faster action, things could have been different. Please spare whatever you can to help to fund more research into this cruel cancer. Johns last wish was “don’t give up on me” so if you’re still reading, don’t give up on all those who need a cure”
Making me Mrs Clover became Johns focus and 6 days later, we married in hospital. I became the proud wife of my soul mate, my hero and the man who showed such courage during an illness nobody could tell us much about. John selected his stepson as his best man and we were surrounded by the love of both of our families.
The following day, John lost his core ability to sit through muscle wastage. His speech was little to non and the medical team arrived to deliver the news that there was no treatment to be offered. Arrangements were made for John to come home…..

God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,
and whispered, “Come to me”.
You didn’t deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best
And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.
Thank you
Emma Clover
