The brain tumour benefits checker is an online tool that helps you understand which benefits you might be able to claim if you’re affected by a brain tumour.
We’ve worked with a benefits specialist to determine the minimum number of questions we could ask you so that we can suggest which benefits and other support you might be eligible for.

About the brain tumour benefits checker
Who can use the benefits checker?
This tool is intended for anyone who is affected by a brain tumour that might be eligible for benefits. This includes people with a brain tumour diagnosis and those around them, like their carers.
There are benefits that might apply to people who are employed, unemployed, or retired.
There are benefits specific to parents or guardians of children who have been diagnosed with a brain tumour.
And, there are benefits that apply to carers or people who must make certain allowances to look after someone with a brain tumour.
Our benefits checker helps you identify where you sit within the benefits framework. This is so you can better understand which benefits you might be able to claim.
What does the brain tumour benefits checker include?
The brain tumour benefits checker includes information on benefits relating to your income and living circumstances.
Possible income benefits include statutory sick pay (SSP), access to work grants, bereavement support payments (BSP), prescription prepayment certificate (PPC), personal independence payment (PIP), new style job seekers allowance (JSA), new style employment and support allowance (ESA), and carers credit (CC).
Living benefits you might be entitled to include housing benefit (HB), universal credit (UC), and council tax reduction (CTR).
Possible benefits for parents or guardians affected by a brain tumour diagnosis include disability living allowance (DLA) for children, parental bereavement leave, and parental bereavement pay.
How does it work?
We’ve made the benefits checker as easy to use as possible. We’ve set it to ask the minimum number of questions possible to give you information on what benefits you might be eligible for.
The checker asks you to specify your employment status. This helps define which benefits might apply to you and your circumstances.
The next step is to refine this further by choosing from four options, picking any that apply to you. These aim to determine whether you’re a carer, have a child who is affected by a brain tumour diagnosis, are affected by a brain tumour diagnosis yourself, and whether you work under 16 hours a week.
Depending on your selections, the benefits checker offers a list of benefits that you might be able to claim. It also offers information on the eligibility criteria and links to be able to begin your application process.
