The Twilight Walk brings together our community up and down the country, as they take on a walking challenge to raise money, raise awareness and celebrate loved ones.
COVID-19 has had a profound impact on everyone and as a charity we have seen a huge impact to our fundraising. It has also forced many in our community to isolate, cut off from their families and loved ones.
So, whilst we’re unable to bring everyone together in person, we still want to give our community the chance to come together.
The Twilight Walk has been and continues to be, one of our most supported events and you can still unite with us virtually this October and join hundreds of others to do The Twilight Walk your way.
Whether you tackle a long hike with your household or spread your strides over a number of walks, you can take part however works best for you – while keeping safe and following government guidelines.
Stride out yourself or form a team with loved ones – and walk anywhere, any time in October to make up the distance to your chosen goal.
You can opt for our traditional 10km, or go further with our more challenging distances: 50km or 100km. If you don’t fancy a hefty hike, you can split the challenge into any number of shorter walks!
So whether it’s the local beach or a stroll around the park that means the most, walk it your way – at a time or place special to you and your loved ones.
So limber up, plan your route and be part of our movement. Though we’re walking apart, we’ll beat brain tumours together!
Our trustee Berrie said: ”As trustees, Graham and I have always valued The Twilight Walk enormously: it is our chance to take part in these very emotional but life-enriching events, to connect with our supporters, our staff and volunteers as we all walk together, united in our common experience of brain tumours and how they affect not just the patient, but all those who love and care about them, too.
“We were so disappointed to hear that Covid-19 has put a stop to this year’s mass walks, particularly since this Christmas marks 20 years since we lost our beloved 14 year old son, Michael, and we really wanted to commemorate his life with extra purpose this time. However, all is not lost! We will be in North Devon on our wedding anniversary this October, and we will – just as we hope YOU will – be taking part in The Twilight Walk virtually, which for us will be along a stretch of the South West Coastal Path.
“It would mean such a lot to us if you joined us virtually on YOUR walk – we can all follow each other on Facebook and Instagram and Twitter as we go. As our fabulous new Charity t-shirts say – Great Minds Think Alike.”
More than 102,000 people are living with a brain tumour in the UK, but less than 3% of national cancer research funding is spent on the disease. Advances in treatments and quality-of-life care need to be made, and they need to be made quickly – by joining together, we know we can reach our goals sooner!
The money you raise will help us continue to invest in world-class research, campaign for change and support more people affected by brain tumours.
We’re asking every adult to raise £100 – or more if you can! This amount could pay for a test to understand how brain tumours develop and help identify personalised treatments.
