The AMRC highlights that spending has been consistent over the last eight years with £1.4bn invested in the 2015 financial year alone.
The Brain Tumour Charity has been a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) since 2006 and have received the AMRC’s Certificate of Best Practice for our peer review process three times.
We have invested over £18m to date and in the 2015/16 financial year, thanks to your generous support, our investment in brain tumour research was over £3m. We have £6.6m already committed to pioneering research grants over the next four years, with further grants being awarded this year.
Our research investment has real impact and the quality of the research delivered through these projects has opened the door to obtaining further grants from other universities, government institutions and major funders such as the European Research Council.
We know that for every pound awarded from our grants, this results in a further £1.55 being invested for research into brain tumours.
Aisling Burnand, Chief Executive of the AMRC said: “Charities have invested nearly £10bn in research here in the UK since we started collecting data in 2008, demonstrating a strong commitment to improving patient lives through medical and health research.
“The amount of funding has steadily increased in the last eight years and has now reached pre-recession levels of funding.“
