Our Children and Families team were absolutely delighted to hold our last Family Day of the year on Saturday 16 November. We welcomed a number of families to the Tamworth Snowdome for a whole day of festive fun. It was an opportunity for families to spend time away from hospital appointments without worrying about finances and a chance to meet other families who understand what they’re going through.
We made great use of the indoor SnowDome with its “real” fake snow. There was sledging, a pantomime and a chance to meet Santa’s reindeer. And we were as surprised as anybody when Santa himself made an appearance to hand out presents.
What are Family Days?
Our Family Days are for families with a child under the age of 18 who’s living with a brain tumour or families where a parent is living with a brain tumour and has children under the age of 18. We aim to give families the chance to spend time together away from hospital, meet other people who are going through similar experiences and enjoy a day out without having to worry about finances.
Our Festive Family Day was our fourth and final Family Day of the year following events at Manchester LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, Paignton Zoo and Willows Activity Farm.
A big thank you to the Lewis Moody Foundation (LMF) who also kindly support our Children and Families team in bringing our Family Days to life.

What did our team think about our Festive Family Day?
“It was a fantastic day all round and wonderful to bring so many families together for a fun, festive day out. These days are so important and provide opportunity for families within our community to be in company with others who just ‘get it’. It was brilliant to see the excitement when Santa arrived in the room!”
Clare Jackson, Children and Families Support Manager
“One of the best parts of my job is organising our fabulous Family Days, especially our Tamworth Snowdome Family Day that happens every Christmas! As it’s our largest Family Day (around 100 people attend), it definitely takes plenty of planning and preparation, however bringing the families together and watching everyone get into the festive spirit makes it all worth it!”
