Funding support to improve lives- the new Relationship Counselling Service
Sharing a strong, healthy relationship with your partner has numerous proven health benefits. And that’s something that’s particularly important when you or your loved one have been diagnosed with a brain tumour. And so, we are proud to announce, that thanks to the incredible work of our fundraisers over the last year, we have been able to help fund a new support service to help our community in this area.
Through supporting The Brain Tumour Charities new Relationship Counselling Service, The Foundation will be helping individuals and couples, with managing the often challenging changes within their relationships, following a diagnosis. This free counselling service will be delivered by Relate, a leading relationships charity. Those accessing support can do so as an individual or couple, whilst single or in a relationship and no matter how you identify, counselling is open to everyone who’s life has been affected by a brain tumour.
Speaking to Annie Moody following the launch, she said “We are so proud and absolutely delighted to be helping fund the new Relationship Counselling Service through The Brain Tumour Charity.”
So what’s the inspiration for The Foundation’s support with this new project? Annie tells us “After having a very frank and open conversation with someone at a family day, whose relationship with her husband had been massively impacted by her diagnosis (in every sense), it heightened my drive to help deliver a service that could support couples during this pressurised time. It has been proven that keeping a relationship strong is paramount to helping improve survival rates, health and wellbeing for those affected by a brain tumour. This is why Lewis and I have felt so passionate about helping see the service brought to fruition.”
The statistics speak for themselves. 2 in 3 people with a brain tumour have seen a negative impact on their relationships with a partner and 72% have physical intimacy affected. We hope that by funding this new service, we can help improve the lives of those living with a brain tumour and reduce the affect their diagnosis has on this area of their lives.
“I would urge anyone in need of this service to check it out, we are here to support you. And a huge thank you to everyone who has raised incredible funds for The Foundation over the last year, you have helped make this possible!”
